Organized Crime Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Organized Crime - Essay Example Stefanoââ¬â¢s leadership of the group collapsed in 1969 because of divided loyalties and in 1974; Stefano died of a heart attack (Kilpinen). This crime organization still operates actively in some parts of New York. Its membership has significantly decreased throughout the years; nevertheless, it is still a major crime organization. In order to investigate this crime organization, I would prosecute the members of the organization under the provisions of the 1970 Organized Crime Control Act, where Title IX is specified as RICO or Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization. RICO specifies various criminal activities in relation to organized crime which are punishable by the law. Activities include bribery, extortion, and murder (Oââ¬â¢Connor, 2009). This law also decreased the minimum qualifications of conspiracy, enabling the prosecution of organized criminals even without meeting the strict qualifications of conspiracy. I would also prosecute them under RICO which would allow law enforcement officials to seize the assets, proceeds, and instrumentalities of their criminal activities (Oââ¬â¢Connor, 2009). I would offer deals to the younger members of the organization for them to turn statesââ¬â¢ witness and testify against the organization. I believe that these younger generations would be easier to c onvince than their older counterparts. Most of them are reluctant to face prison sentences as members of the organization and would prefer to get their lives out of the control of the organization (Oââ¬â¢Connor, 2009). In the process of investigating the Buffalo Family, I would also call on the assistance of the Organized Crime Council who shall ask the assistance of other federal agencies like the FBI, DEA, ATF, ICE, IRS, Postal Security, Department of Labor, Diplomatic Security, and the Office of the Inspector General (Finklea, 2010). With all these agencies involved in the process of investigating the Buffalo Family, I would

The Future of Nursing, Leading Change, Advancing Health Essay
The Future of Nursing, Leading Change, Advancing Health - Essay Example Nursing as a healthcare profession isà highlyà dynamic. This paper will discuss the impact that the 2010 IOM report had on the future of nursing, leading change and advancing health (Fitzpatrick, 2010). The 2010 IOM reportà was formulatedà by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) which is an interdisciplinary advisoryà authorityà that addresses matters pertaining to the health of the nation. Thisà bodyà was establishedà in 1970 by a charter of the National Academy of Sciences. The body serves a broadà spectrumà of stakeholders whoà includeà health professionals, the private sector, policy makers and theà public. In 2008, IOM in collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) came up with a policy document that suggested various changes to the nursing profession. This report suggested the broadest overhaul in healthcareà provisionà since 1965. This report opened with fourà mainà messages and closed with recommendations most of whichà will b e discussedà in the subsequent sections of the paper (WHO, 2010). Key messages of the report The report dubbed ââ¬Å"The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Healthâ⬠contained four key messages.à These included: 1. The nursesââ¬â¢Ã practiceà should be to the full extent of their training and education. 2. They shouldà attainà higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promotesà flawlessà academicà succession 3. Nurses should fully partner with physicians and other healthcare practitioners, inà re schemingà U.S. healthcare services. 4. Effectualà personnelà planning and policy making necessitate enhanced dataà compilationà and an improved information infrastructure Key Message 1 Thisà messageà that proposed that nurses should practice to the full extent of their training had two crucial subcategories. The first subcategory addresses theà scopeà of the nursesââ¬â¢ practice while the secon d discusses their residency program. Subcategory 1: Scope of Practice Neuroscience nurses must be able to carry out their duties to theà fullnessà of their training and education training despite their posting whether bedside nurses or advanced practitioners in the community (IOM, 2010).à For this cause, the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN)à tacticalà plan commissioned a task force toà reviseà its 2002 scope and standardsà article. There is a need toà incorporateà theà extentà ofà practiceà for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) with those of bedside nurses to enhance theà brillianceà in the neurosciences (IOM, 2010). Subcategory 2: Nursesââ¬â¢ residency Programs This subcategory addressesà mattersà pertaining to nursesââ¬â¢ transition from school toà realà practice. At this time, there is aà requirementà to put into practice a multilevel residency curriculum toà superviseà admissionà into neuroscienc e nursing and throughout transitions to ranks of greater oversight (IOM, 2010). Key Message 2 Theà secondà mainà messageà of the IOM Future of Nursingà reportà proposed that nurses shouldà attainà higher levels of education and training via an enhancedà educationalà curriculum that endorses seamless academicà progressionà (IOM, 2010). As anà ongoingà educationà contributor, AANN encourages theà trainingà of neuroscience nurses. It is alsoà crucialà that AANN reflect on supporting options comprising

Jesus, Antigone and Augustine Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Jesus, Antigone and Augustine - Essay Example This paper shall seek to look at the figures of Antigone, Jesus Christ and Augustine. These three figures fought against established forms of authority. What is significant about this collection of revolutionaries is that all three of them adopted methods that were not violent. All three of them were however, practitioners of very different methods and controversies remain as to the reasons as to why these three employed the methods of resistance that they employed. Antigone is a fictional character created by the great playwright Sophocles. His characterization of Antigone was meant to evoke strong reactions. On the other hand are Jesus and Augustine, both of whom are historical characters about whom most information is present, however, in the form of legends. Augustine is more of a historical character than Jesus, since information regarding him survives in the form of his writings. Jesus Christ was a person who lived during the times of the Roman Empire was a Jew who was consider ed to be the messiah of the Jews. The Jews in the Roman Empire lived under the control of the Roman Empire and were resentful of the control of whom they considered to be foreigners. Jesus, according to the Bible, was the Messiah (Mark 8: 27-32). He claimed to be the son of God and thus divine. He, according to the Bible, was the person who had taken on the form of man in order to wash off the sins of mankind and provide him with redemption. According to writers like John Milton, he was to be considered to have volunteered to save man from eternal perdition by laying down his own life voluntarily. By voluntarily undergoing a gruesome death at the cross, Jesus would act the role of the sacrificial lamb and thus free mankind from the original sin. Milton talks of the beginning of this story in his great work Paradise Lost (Milton). This account of the life of Jesus is however, not a strictly historical one. Historically, he is considered by many to have been a member of the Jewish com munity that was oppressed by the Roman Empire. He was a religious leader who sought to change the dynamics of power as they existed between the Roman officials and Empire and the Jews and the other original inhabitants of what is known today as Israel. Jesusââ¬â¢ contribution to the liberation of the people f Israel is considered to be seminal and this is considered by some to be the reason as to why he was deified by some. Antigone, on the other hand, is an almost completely fictional character. She is present in the work Antigone, by Sophocles. The importance of the character can be gauged from the fact that she is the titular character in the play. She also is the character who provides the play with its thematic thrust with an emphasis on the resistance to the established powers of the state. She is the daughter of Oedipus, who was once the king of Thebes and Jocasta, who was also the mother of Oedipus. The Oedipal tale is one of how man is unable to change his own fate. The tale of Antigone is however, that of one who makes an effort despite this knowledge, to change her fate. The very existence f Antigone is a challenge to the traditional social structures of her time, since she is the product of incest. Hers is a situation where her mother and her grandmother are the same person. This situation is according to conventional understandings of events, an unnatural one and Antigone is thus, a challenge to the

What role did colonial trade play in the development of London Essay
What role did colonial trade play in the development of London - Essay Example Britain is known to have colonized some of the worldââ¬â¢s biggest economies and nations including America, Australia and most parts of Africa. Out of this, Britain gained total economic and political control over most countries who served as British colonies. By and large, these countries invested heavily into the entire development of Britain ââ¬â particular London. This essay is thus dedicated to scrutinizing some of the major means by which Londonââ¬â¢s development was affected: positively and negatively by the colonial trade. How the early profits from the slave trade developed the industrial revolution It has remained common knowledge and taught throughout British schools that ââ¬Å"during the 1800s the Industrial Revolution spread throughout Britain.â⬠... unskilled slaves were not on regular salary taken by unskilled British, they were also made to work overtime in most of the times that they were called to duty. The second way that the slaves were used by the industries is that they were given rapid training to take up ââ¬Ësemi-skilledââ¬â¢ tasks. These semi-skilled tasks were not typically bookish but had to do with supervision over unskilled labourers. As discussed earlier, these slaves were not taking normal salary and as such saved the industries a lot of expenditure. Again, the slaves were made to work far beyond normal working hours and thus improved productivity. The improvement in productivity that was recorded in most industries saw London and Britain record major industrial growth. This eventually brought about what came to be known as industrial revolution, which was a major turning point in Londonââ¬â¢s development. East and West India Company, their business dealings and profits The East and West India Company w ere seen as the backbone of Londonââ¬â¢s development in the colonial days. Surprisingly, the company still plays very vital role in the economy of London and the world at large. As noted by The East India Company (2011), ââ¬Å"without The Company our world would not be as it is today.â⬠This is not a mere publicity talk when discussion is being made of companies, whose dealings and profits indeed were visible in the transformation of Londonââ¬â¢s economy and entire development. As a company that received the recognition of the Queen of England through the Royal Charter, much was expected from the company right from the unset. Hopefully and true to expectation, the companyââ¬â¢s dealings and general business structure ensured that the company recorded major trade gains and initiations such as the establishment of

Strategy to recommend to improve sales and increase Old Navy's Essay
Strategy to recommend to improve sales and increase Old Navy's Customer base - Essay Example Sending postcards to all customers who have purchased something from the store during the past 14 months. Issuing of gift checks for their loyal customers. Offering for privilege cards is also enhancing. By Putting up additional promos or create big promos that draws people to the store or even smaller , inexpensive, more-off beat avenues - and then do it consistently is also effective. According to a website "A common failing among those who favor the big bonanza promotion, is that they either don't advertise enough or plan carefully enough in advance." So if the company want to hold a big promotion, you have to think big, and commit accordingly. Other company proved this very effectively. Another is impose a deadline. It's often necessary to put urgency into company's ads, or any marketing messages. Whether the prices are going in low low prices or be given a very big discount you need to have a deadline or incentive and motivate people to take action now. For instance, this coming summer. St. Patrick's Day Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
St. Patrick's Day - Essay Example The first concerning the origins of the ââ¬Å"potato famineâ⬠and, the second, the actions of scholarly textbook publishers that have no ethical issues with neglecting large chunks of relevant and important history. The Irish ââ¬Å"Potato Famineâ⬠is usually described in textbooks and History classes as a terrible disaster, like an earthquake or a plague; something completely outside of human control. However, that is entirely not the case. The famine had far more to do with the harsh and negligent treatment of English landlords upon Irish farmers. The occurrence was not great ââ¬Å"blightâ⬠or ââ¬Å"an act of a God;â⬠it was a physical act of human beings that caused the starvation among the poorer class at the time, which was sadly, the Irish (Bigelow 1). This is new information that is interesting to discover. The second issue, the fact that history books are printing edited or omitted historical events and it is so very common. If textbooks cannot be trusted to teach true and accurate history on any given subject, then how can we trust that information at all? What other topics and subjects might they be presenting a revisionist interpretation of? Ultimately, this discover y and its commonality are rather shocking. In the end, history is history; what happened, happened. There are both shameful and inspiring events in any country or cultures history. However the only way for people, as individuals and societies, can learn from their mistakes and move into a more enlightened future is to have access to our true history, our actions, for better or worse. By presenting a limited or vague interpretation of historical events, specifically such a significant and often misunderstood event, it diminishes the plight of these people and prevents us from looking at our history as a complete whole. The Irish have a rich history both in Europe and here in the United States and it is sad to know that large chunks
